{"id":487,"date":"2018-12-09T18:22:23","date_gmt":"2018-12-09T18:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/html5-chat.com\/blog\/?p=487"},"modified":"2018-12-09T18:23:28","modified_gmt":"2018-12-09T18:23:28","slug":"codec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/html5-chat.com\/blog\/codec\/","title":{"rendered":"Vp8 and H264 codec which one should I use ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Html5 chat supports now H264 and vp8 codecs<\/h3>\n<p>For now, we only used <strong>H264<\/strong> to support Safari.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/H.264\/MPEG-4_AVC\"><strong>H264<\/strong> <\/a>is very old codec\u00a0 and has some big drawbacks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>bigger bandwidth consumption<\/li>\n<li>lower quality<\/li>\n<li>lower reliability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/VP8\"><strong>Vp8<\/strong> <\/a>has all qualities except.. it is not supported on Safari.<\/p>\n<p>You can choose the codec selection form the config\/webcam chatadmin panel<\/p>\n<p>What about <strong>Microsoft Edge<\/strong> ?<\/p>\n<p>Forget Edge compatibility for now, since Edge will be based on Chromium from early 2019 and thus will have vp8<\/p>\n<p>Notice that we will add new <strong>vp9<\/strong> soon that will increase quality of video. Of course Vp9 is not supported by safari.<\/p>\n<p>Notice that soon, all majors browsers should <a href=\"https:\/\/caniuse.com\/#feat=av1\">adopt AV1<\/a>, that will end the war between all these codecs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Html5 chat supports now H264 and vp8 codecs For now, we only used H264 to support Safari.
